Simon Greatwich isn't your typical college sophomore.
The Hartwick College men's soccer midfielder is part of the Phillipines National Team, which is competing in the group-stage qualifiers of the Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup.
Greatwich started Wednesday for the Philippines in a 0-0 draw against Palestine at the Youth Training Centre Stadium in Yangon, Mayanmar (also known as Burma). He also started in a 1-1 tie against Myanmar at the same site Monday.
The Phillipines, also known as the Azkals, stand third in Group A with two points. Palestine (1-0-1) leads the group with four points, followed by Bangladesh (1-1) with three. At 0-1-1, Myanmar rounds out the four-team group with one point.
The Azkals play their final qualifying match against Bangladesh on Friday, when Myanmar meets Palestine.
The top two teams in each of the four groups advance to the quarterfinal round.
A native of Lewes, England, Greatwich began his tour with the Philippines Full National Team when the Azkals played Mongolia on Feb. 9. Greatwich entered in the 46th minute and helped the Phillipines to a 2-0 victory in front of 20,000 fans at Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City, Philippines.
