The old Rizal Memorial Stadium is being readied for the FIFA World Cup qualifying game between the Philippine Azkals and Sri Lanka in June.
The 77-year-old stadium badly needs to be refurbished in time for the game between the Azkals and Sri Lanka for a chance to join the World Cup on July 3.
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), which manages the stadium, is banking on diversifying conglomerate San Miguel Corp. (SMC) to provide assistance in preparing the stadium meet the standards of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association or International Federation of Association Football).
The Philippine Footbal Federation (PFF), which joined the SMC officials during a recent visit at the stadium, said they found no major problem in the venue except for some minor ground repairs.
